Pragmatic Language Difficulties: Helping Your Child Develop Social-Communication Skills
Presented by Linda Gross, M.A., CCC-SLP
Many students with learning disabilities struggle with the social use of language, or “pragmatics”. The difficulties are evident both inside and outside of the classroom. For example, maintaining a conversational topic, using appropriate tone of voice, understanding and using body language, and establishing and maintaining friendships.
From the perspective of a speech-language pathologist, this workshop will provide parents with the following information:
- Overview of pragmatic language development
- Characteristics of a pragmatic language disorder and the impact on daily social situations
- Specific social communication skills
- Who are the professionals that address social communication skills
- Effective strategies to use at home (e.g., scripting)

Creating Your Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Tool Kit
The IEP is a written plan for an eligible child with a disability that is developed, reviewed, and revised in an IEP Team meeting following the federal special education law. It is the legally binding contract which explains how the student will receive access to the general curriculum as well as which supports and services will be provided for success in all areas of the school. During this workshop you will learn what you need to be prepared for your IEP meeting to effectively advocate for your child. - Thursday, February 28th 9-10am Boxford Town Hall

Brain Gym - Developed by Dr. Paul Dennison, an educator and reading specialist. The theory of Brain Gym is that specific movements stimulate the flow of information along three dimensions of the brain: laterality (side to side), focus (back to front) and centering (top to bottom). This Brain Gym session will provide participants with a series of simple and enjoyable movements that can be used to enhance learning. Movements focus on stimulating the whole brain allowing children as well as adults to reach their full potential as learners. These exercises have been known to help individuals who have difficulties focusing, staying on task, crossing midline, or who have been diagnosed with a learning disability and/or ADD/ADHD. - Thursday, May 29th 9-10am Boxford Town Hall
TTSEAC Annual Meeting - Election of Officers takes place during this meeting.
